The Indian women’s cricket team lost the opening T20 International by 18 runs under the DLS method after failing against the England batsmen. England women scored 177 for seven in 20 overs on Saturday night and put India on the back foot by ducking opener Shafali Verma in the first over of the innings.

A 44-run partnership between other openers Smriti Mandhana and Harleen Deol put India back on track but two quick wickets from Smriti (29) and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (1) put them behind. The match was called off after 8.4 overs due to rain and the Indians struggled to match it. Natalie, who also took the wicket of Smriti, was awarded the player of the match. Natalie Sciver scored 55 runs in 27 balls with 8 fours, 1 sixer, while Amy Jones scored 43 runs in 27 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixers.
