IPL 2021: Delhi Capitals beat Rajasthan Royals by 33 runs

Slow pitch bowling helped Delhi Capitals top the points table in IPL 2021 after thrashing Rajasthan Royals by 33 runs in a low-scoring match at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium here on Saturday. . It was the first day-match of the UAE leg of IPL 2021 and conditions were tough for the batsmen – the scorching conditions made batting even more difficult with the ball not coming through. Rajasthan captain Sanju Samson won the toss and decided to bowl first, assuming that the pitch would ease in the second innings. But nothing happened as Delhi Capitals posted a modest 154/6 and then came out to defend it with a lot of saves.

Shreyas Iyer scored 43 for Delhi and Shimron Hetmyer, who hit some catchy boundaries during his short stay on the wicket, scored made a quick contribution of 28 runs as Delhi finished with a small total. With Iyer and Pant trying to cut loose, Rajasthan captain Samson made an inspired bowling change and brought in Mustafizur Rahman, a left-arm pacer, and the Bangladesh pacer smacked Pant off his wicket with a full ball outside off. But getting chops broke the dangerous partnership. Delhi were bowled out for 83 for three. Iyer too was dismissed soon after as Delhi rolled 90/4 at the hands of Samson off Tewatia in the 14th over. And this Bangladesh fast bowler broke the dangerous partnership by getting Pant to chop his wicket on a full ball outside off.

Hetmyer hit a few boundaries but was dismissed trying to hit a yorker from Mustafizur as Delhi eventually went past 150. In the final analysis, that too proved to be enough for a comfortable win.
